1966 Coachbuilt Italian Salesflap
$45,000 - $80,000 - varies with options
Convert by Carrozzeria Grazia of Italy in 1966 this is a one of a kind Salesflap.
There are no others like
it. Notice how the flap door is actually part of the roof. You won't see that
with "normal" run of the mill Westy SO-1 conversions.
I bought this salesflap back in 2004 or so and have been using it as a daily
driver / parts hauler / swap meet vehicle for the last 10 years.
It's gone through many
changes and upgrades in that time. I now believe I have it dialed in and it's a
bullet proof driver.
Lets start with the body. It's ORIGINAL paint. What you see is what you get.
The only "work" is around
the flap from when the conversion was done back in 1966. No recent paint
blending, no hidden bondo, no aftermarket metal. 100% German!!
When purchased, the rear apron and rear hatch were not original paint. After
years of searching I was able to find replacements that were. Not an easy task!!
It does have it's flaws, most of that is in the rocker areas and easily fixed if
you choose to do so. I did not.
Interior wise it has been changed a bit, but nothing that jumps out at you.
Seats are covered in "salt and pepper" mesh grey and grey vinyl, as are the door
panels and kick panels.
The original cab divider
and headliner panels (not installed) are the factory grey color.
The rear cargo area is in original worn grey paint. Nothing fancy there.
The salesflap had no supports when purchased.
For years we used loose
rods (as seen in some pictures) when it was decided that probably wasn't the
safest thing we had a set of stock like folding supports made and installed. No
more chance of the flap accidentally falling on someone.
The suspension is one of our Vintage Warehouse set ups.
3" narrowed beam, dropped spindles, straight axle kit, flipped tie rods,
clearanced shift rod, raised steering box, clearanced frame rails.
I
challenge anyone to find a smoother riding static dropped bus. I
get compliments on the ride from everyone that sits in it. Really!
Brakes are T3 in the rear with Porsche adapters for the current wheels.
The front is one of our Wilwood / 944 hybrid set ups in Porsche pattern.
All lines are braided
steel. No worries about stopping power here.
Wheels are original American Racing magnesium Torque Thrust in Porsche 5x130
pattern.
They even have the original center caps (never seen another set of those caps)
Tires
are 195/60/15's in the rear and 165/45/15's in the front. All
tires have good thread and years of life / many miles left on them.
The transmission is what really makes this a great freeway driver.
It's a Rancho built ProStreet Plus with a 3.44 Ring and Pinion, 1-3 stock gears and a .77 4th.
What that means in real
life is 81+ MPH at 3000rpm so you truly can cruise and not worry about
destroying your engine.
The current engine is a Paradise Motorsports built 2276cc with 48 IDA's,
Magneto, A-1 exhaust and a 911 style shroud / fan.
On the chassis dyno it
made 108hp to the wheels, so hauling heavy loads uphill against the wind is NOT
a problem.
We have a 96 plate external cooler with fan, external JayCee Superflo filter,
and close to 30 feet of -8AN steel braided oil line.
Cooling the oil is NOT a
problem and the engine never starves for oil either.
I am willing to work with the new owner to make a deal that works for them.
Here are some various wheel / engine combos and asking prices.
As described above - $80,000
No wheels, No engine - $55,000
No running gear. Complete shell only - $45,000
I am also will to mix and match to suit your wallet.
Let me know what works for
you.
Open to partial trades.
Financing / payment options are available as well.
